Crisco
I am experimenting with a new hair and skin moisturizer that would be shocking to most of the health conscious. Crisco! Yes, the shortening used for baking and frying foods.
On a regular basis I would not recommend Crisco because of the hydrogenated oils. Although these oils have been proven to cause high cholesterol, coronary heart disease and other health problems by digesting them I have found it to have a reverse and satisfying effect on skin and hair.
These oils are not being absorbed into the bloodstream like the trans fats found in foods. Your skin cells can gain and lose moisture, but this is not related to the digestive system and therefore using these oils on the skin is harmless.
I first used Crisco, which first ingredient by the way is soybean oil, on my feet and instantly felt the difference without greasy residue. I figured if it works on the roughest part of my skin then it should do the same for my hair. Combining Crisco to glycerine for moisturizing shampoo, using after washing as a moisturizing mask to be washed out or as a curl sealer for wet tresses seems to be successful. Lasting softness without a heavy greasy feel. Still not using an oil or butter before applying my favorite water based moisturizing application, if not then I'm sealing the hair shaft before, therefore locking the moisturizer out. Jane Carter leave in conditioner is my current go to water based moisturizer.

Knocked Up, Now What?
Knocked Up, Now What? is a LIVE event that teaches young moms the fundamentals of financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and philanthropy.
ABOUT TIPHANI
“Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing it is stupid!”
-Albert Einstein
When I was 12, they told me I was stupid — and prescribed ‘smart pills’ (aka, Ritalin) to wrestle my brain into a state of submission. I fed them to my Rottweiler. They worked like a charm.
When I was 21, they told me I’d never amount to anything — so I took my baby daughter, moved to a new state, self-published a book of poetry, and sold 2,500 copies in less than a month…from behind the bar where I mixed drinks & hustled tips.
When I was 25, my college GPA was an abysmal 0.0 — so I dropped out. Wrote my first (of four) novels in two and a half months. And landed on the Essence magazine bestseller list seven separate times — including the #1 spot.
At 26, I snapped open my eyes and saw the life I’d designed, with unflinching clarity. My love life was sick — with an infection that was poisoning my sanity, my creativity, and my ability to earn money — and hold my own power. I had allowed a series of bad relationships to spin me — a confident, self-made woman — into a docile doormat.
And just like magic, a brilliant little voice was whispering (well, more like BELLOWING):
“GET UP + GO HARDER!”
And when I decided to GET UP + GO HARDER, my life transformed with incredible speed.
That’s the power of taking responsibility for moments of ‘temporary insanity’, setting diamond-sharp goals, and holding yourself accountable for positive ACTION.
Today, I’m no longer a doormat. And nobody calls me “stupid” — and I live to tell the tale.
I’m a professional Challenger, and a master of manifestation.
I’m synthesizing everything I’ve studied, experienced, and created in the realms of personal development, entrepreneurship & single parenting into my empire.
Everything I’m serving up is designed to help you BELIEVE in your intuitive genius, TRUST your pro-active decisions, and LIVE your life as if you’ve already arrived, precisely where you want to be.
My message is wild. It’s spiritual. And let me tell you — it is ABSOLUTELY about cashflow, power & fearless self-promotion.
If your career is stagnating — or hasn’t even begun…If you’re locked in a déjà vu cycle of sickly relationships…If you want to be a role model for your kids — and bring out their gifts, by shining a light on your own…GET UP + GO HARDER is your new mantra, your new life-policy, and your new online bootcamp for coaching, accountability, self-respect, and success.
I want you to believe in yourself.
HARDER than you ever thought possible.

Taliah Waajid Product on Children Review
After a Co-wash and deep condition under a hooded dryer for 20 min on my daughters hair, I opted to try a new detangling hair regimen.
I used Taliah Waajid's Ouch-less Hair Softener to massage scalp and distribute by finger detangling. The product was creamy but light enough not to weigh down and did a fair job on softening hair.
After finger detangling, I sectioned hair into 6 bantu knots and secured with clips. I saturated each section in Taliah Waajid's The Great Detangler and used a afro pick comb and paddle brush to detangle from tips to root. Curls remained sleek and full of moisturizer and did not frizz after sections were braided before styling.
The combination of these products cut down on time and made the detangling process easier.

5 Celebrity Natural Hair Divas
Actress Tracie Ellis Ross as the lovably neurotic Joan Clayton on Girlfriends, wore her natural hair in an array of styles from her "milkmaid" braids to an elegant ponytail. In the March 2012 Uptown Mag cover story Tracie shares that her coming out of her shell and turning point was when she let her hair go naturally and got contact lenses.
Upcoming actress and model, Yaya Dacosta is well known for her participation in "America's Next Top Model" in 2003. She embraces her natural curls and does not compromise her embrace for fame. From updos, twist and braid outs, head wraps, afros and even straightened hair, Yaya does it all in her dramatic yet subtle hair fashion.
Singer Elle Varner's bouncy curls are healthy and fierce falling into the hands of hair and makeup artist Dayron Haylock, to help create her enviable coif. She has always been natural so when taking care of her own hair she creates a homemade mixture of shea butter, mango oil and vitamin e oil. It's thick and good for nighttime.
Singer Monica Brown shares with her fans on "Instagram" that she has been natural for 13 years and promotes Kimble Hair Care products to keep her tresses healthy, sleek and beautiful. I would have never guessed she was natural because she always wears very straight and polished looks but her hair styles are examples of naturalistas that prefer straighter looks.
Keshia Knight Pulliam, also known as Rudy Huxtable from the “The Cosby Show,” confesses in an interview with curlynikki that the best thing about being natural is the versatility. She goes on to say that she doesn't feel every natural has healthy hair, but she does think that avoiding harsh chemicals promotes healthier hair.
Who is your favorite celebrity that wears their hair natural?
Process of Low Manipulation Style Switch
After almost 1 month of low manipulation 2 strand twists that I refer to as my "Poetic Justice" I decided to take them down and do a wash with Sof n Free "NOTHING BUT" Clarifying Shampoo and added a tlbsp of baking soda.
This removed dust and product build up at root of twists from moisturizing oils and styling aids.
After shampoo, I conditioned and hand detangled with olive oil and hair mayo that I left in all day. Wash & Go curly day.
Next morning I rinsed hair clean and applied water+glycerin+argan oil mixture to detangle. After detangling I sealed curls with Sof n Free "NOTHING BUT" Curl Sealer and applied a nickel amount of JAM to smooth sections of hair before rodding with grey perm rods.
Air drying waiting for final results....

My Day: Atlanta Apparel

Saturday was my first time at AmericasMart in Atlanta for a buyers show! The veterans in the game considered the show to be a slow one but I was just excited about the opportunity to have a inside look and network with beautiful people.

My aunt, Tanya Bowers buyer for TriBeCa fashion introduced me to the designer of Look From London and I was able to see his display of fierce and sexy tights, jeggins, and laced gloves.
Veterans of fashion and retail on the accessory floor at Golden Stella and downstairs in cash and carry were great! They gave me helpful and encouraging tips about business as a new entrepreneur.
The buyers show was from Thursday-Sunday and not only was there great people and fashion but there were also a runway. On Friday, the daily strut from "Basically Me" wrapped the stage with great looks. People were able to catch up on their latest styles and mingle at a cocktail party that followed. From top to bottom I had a blast and look forward to the next show coming up in July.
Now more than ever do I believe you don’t have to let great style drain your account. A personal jewelry statement can be made for less than you might think. I am ready to incorporate this very way of thinking into Powerful Woman's Potential as another statement to empower women!
